Zanesfield, Ohio Real Estate: Unique Origins
The village that surrounds Zanesfield, Ohio real estate is not your typical village. The sleepy little community is a little off the beaten track, it's the kind of place that people rarely find themselves by accident. As Logan County's smallest village, its residents amount to just under 200 individuals.
The village was named for Isaac Zane, an early settler born in 1793 in Berkeley County, Virginia. As a child, he was captured by the local Syandot tribe and would ultimately marry the daughter of the chief. He had a long career as a guide to visiting state commissioners touring the Northwest Territory. The village of Zanesfield was finally plotted in 1819 by Alexander Long and Isaac Zane's brother Ebenezer.
A Wealth of Attractions in Zanesfield, Ohio Houses for Sale
The Zanesfield, Ohio houses for sale feature no direct highway access. The newer state highway 33 bypassed the small village when it was constructed in the early 1960s; it lies a few miles from the center of Zanesfield. This serves only to add to the small village's quiet charm.
Despite its small size, the village of Zanesfield provides access to an amazing array of exciting outdoor activities that many larger communities would envy. The Mad River passes just west of the community and provides a veritable bounty of brook trout just waiting to be caught. In the wintertime, the Mad River Mountain, less than five minutes south, provides the biggest skiing in Ohio and no matter what your backyard looks like, the resort's 72 fan guns ensure that the mountain is always covered with fresh powder.
